The Prince & Princess Mark 14th Anniversary on Isle of Mull – What Kate Wore
The Princess of Wales wore casual designs for today’s visit to the Isle of Mull in Scotland with Prince William.
Today is the couple’s fourteenth wedding anniversary—more from The Daily Mail’s piece by Rebecca English.
It’s set to be a romantic getaway, with William and Kate renting an isolated self-catering cottage for two during the visit – 14 years after they tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in 2011.
The Lord and Lady of the Isles – as they are known in the region, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay – arrived in Tobermory this afternoon wearing matching tweed jackets as they begin a two-day visit to the Inner Hebrides.
Here is a quick video about the area Kensington Palace posted before their visit.

The couple started their day in the harbor town of Tobermory.
A sizable crowd waited to greet them.
Their first stop was at Aros Hall, a community-owned facility which hosts a wide range of events. The hall is “…home to a community fridge saving food from landfill, a charity shop and a children’s indoor play area” per The Express’s coverage of today’s engagements. Matt Wilkinson of The Sun shared a video of the duo as they arrived.

The couple met local residents.
And contributed to a children’s wall mural in the hall.

More from Hello’s story.
The first to benefit from the Community Impact Programme will be Aros Hall in Tobermory. The ‘Rainydays’ play area will be transformed into a soft play zone to encourage more play activities between parents and their children. The Co-op, as part of the Foundation’s Business Taskforce, will provide funding for the play equipment.
The play area is a space that local charity, Home-Start Lorn, regularly uses as part of its work to support parents and carers build strong bonds with their children.
Hello also notes the royals spoke with “…members of the team to hear how they are using the Shaping Us Framework that the Princess launched earlier this year.” Embed from Getty ImagesWe learn more about the grants from this Sky TV story.
Interior designer Banjo Beale, a presenter on the BBC’s Designing The Hebrides programme and a Mull resident, will work with fellow islanders to ensure the community-owned centres reflect the area’s culture.
Beale joined the prince and princess, officially known by their Scottish titles the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, as they toured the building on Tobermory’s waterfront.
I believe Mr. Beale is seen behind Prince William in the seafoam shirt.
More from this Daily Mirror piece by Russell Myers.
Shown a small work station, where Tom Nelson was making a new ‘surround’ for the community food bank fridge with wooden tiles on its roof, the Prince and Princess agreed to use a nail gun to add their own. William went first, sniffing the wood as he asked what kind it was and taking instructions on the tool.
He fired several nails in successfully before handing it over to his wife, advising her not to pull the trigger then and there “otherwise our trip will be remembered for all the wrong reasons”. Crouching down and adding her tiles matter-of-factly, the Princess was heard to say “I’ve been given a chainsaw” for Christmas.
I have included a quick video about the area featuring Mr. Beale in the ‘videos’ section at the bottom of the post. Below, a group photo from the Aros Hall visit. Below, the Prince and Princess as they left the hall. Embed from Getty Images
This was not the couple’s first visit to Mull. We learn more from this story in The Irish Press.
Maggie Buchanan, an Aros hall committee member, wished William a happy anniversary and when she told him “it’s nice you’re spending it on Mull”, he replied: “Yes, nice.”
Kate and William reminisced about their visit to the island when they were students, telling volunteers and hall committee members how they visited Tobermory, where the popular BBC children’s TV series Balamory was filmed almost 25 years ago. William told Beale and others: “It was 2003 when we were here. We had a lovely time here – it’s wonderful.”
The Prince and Princess spoke with well-wishers gathered near Aros Hall.

It looked like it was a lovely day for today’s engagements.
The royals then headed to the Tobermory Producers Market.

The couple spoke with a local beekeeper.
We return to the Daily Mirror article.
The princess spent so long speaking to Sheila Barnard at a pop up market in the village of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides, that her husband Prince William jokingly suggested he was going to stage an intervention. Moving along several stall holders from local businesses, William and Kate – known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, stopped to talk to Sheila and her husband Tim who have been keeping bees for more than 30 years.
Sheila told the princess how their nine colonies of the native black bee are the only variety that survive over 5 degrees during the harsh winters on the island. Kate said: “This is my summer project, I’ve only just started. At our home in Norfolk, I’m not there much during term time but during the summer I am hoping to really immerse myself in the process. I find it absolutely fascinating. I’ll have to take your number for some tips!”
As Kate asked Sheila “what sort of advice would you have for a novice, I’m desperate for any tips”, William leant in and joked to his wife: “This sounds like a conversation that could go on for a while so you’ll have to take Sheila’s number.”
Speaking with another vendor at the market. The royals spoke with shoppers and artisans.
They enjoyed watching the antics of some toddlers at the market.
The royals also posed for a few selfies.
Both the Prince and Princess appeared to have made a few purchases at the market.
It looks like the Prince bought a miniature ceramic bothy, a small cottage or hut. Embed from Getty ImagesAfter a brief break, the royals visited Croft 3, a croft and restaurant overlooking the water.
In a piece about Croft 3, Architectural Review notes that “Crofting is an agricultural practice particular to Scotland. A croft is a small piece of land, usually rented by a single person or family from a larger estate and used for keeping animals and cultivating crops.”
We learn more from the Scottish Crofting Federation:
Designed to protect the people from exploitation by landlords in the 19th Century, crofting has a proven track record of maintaining population and economic activity in remote rural areas. Crofting supports local food production while protecting the cultural heritage and the natural environment in the crofting areas.
Through its mix of arable and common grazing land, it encourages both communal working and individual enterprise.
In these photos, you see the Prince and Princess with owners Jeanette Cutlack and Jack Shaw.
The couple toured a portion of the croft’s 50 acres and met some of the Hebridean sheep raised on the property.
More from The Standard’s story.
The conversation ranged from dry-stone walling and polytunnels to what grows best in the “salty environment”, and the community benefits of a having local slaughterhouse.
After the tour the pair got to work on a small outdoor barbecue, cooking parcels of home-made haggis wrapped in chard with a glaze of honey and Mull whisky.
Croft 3 offers workshops on making haggis.
The couple as they entered the restaurant.
MSN reports the meal served “…about 30 farmers, crofters and pupils from nearby Ulva Ferry Primary School, alongside sausage rolls and savoury scones.”
More from the MSN piece.
Kate was particularly interested in speaking to the schoolchildren at one end of the table, and crouched down to ask them questions.
She asked them what their favourite foods were – other than sausage rolls – and whether any were in years two or five, the years her own children Louis and Charlotte are in.
She also asked them: “What’s the best thing about living in Mull?”
One of the children replied: “Seeing dolphins every day.”
Chatting with a local crofter.
You can see the Croft 3 April menu here; a 3-course meal is £50 per person (roughly $67 at today’s exchange rates.
Here is the social media post shared after the couple wrapped up the public portion of their day.

And now for our look at what Kate wore.
She debuted a new jacket, Holland Cooper’s Double-Breasted Blazer ($929) in brown herringbone.
The style is 100% wool with a snug silhouette. It features princess seams, notched lapels, flap pockets, and bold logo buttons. Thank you to Gabi for her speedy ID of this piece.
Beneath the blazer, the Princess was in a new shirt.
It appears to be a Boden design, the British retailer’s Longline Linen Safari Shirt ($155, use promo code VDXR for 10% off). The piece is 80% linen with 20% recycled linen, and features a relaxed fit, a button front, shoulder epaulettes, button cuffs, and two front pockets.
It is also available in all sizes on the Next US site ($171). Thank you to Gabi for a great ID!
I think the Princess brought back her Massimo Dutti trousers, the brand’s Skinny Fit High-Rise Satin Trousers ($69.90, no longer available).
The pants were first noted when the Princess visited a garden center in June 2020. They are made of a cotton/lyocell blend with a polished finish, five pockets, zip front, belt loops, and a snug fit. The product description pointed out that the fabric is “TENCEL®Lyocell…. made of wood sourced from sustainably managed forests that guarantee reforestation.”
The Princess wore her See by Chloé boots, a lace-up design with a stacked heel.
The Princess wore her hair down, and in most photos, it appears the color is lighter and/or she has had highlights added.
It looked like the Princess wore a new pair of Kiki McDonough earrings, the designer’s Blue Topaz Pear Drop Earrings (£850, roughly $1140) in 18K yellow gold. Thank you to Mirela on Instagram for the quick ID. This is the third pair of pear drops by Kiki McDonough in the Princess’s jewelry wardrobe.
The Princess brought back two Daniella Draper necklaces: her Trio Diamond Midnight Moon Necklace ($1800) personalized with George, Charlotte, and Louis’s initials, and her Gold Fixed Alphabet Necklace ($500), also featuring the children’s initials.
We saw the return of the Princess’s Finlay Vivian Sunglasses in marble ($240), shown here when first worn at a polo match in July 2023.
I will see you tomorrow when the Prince and Princess visit an ancient woodland to meet the Mull and Iona Ranger Service.
