The Princess of Wales wore casual designs for today’s visit to the Isle of Mull in Scotland with Prince William. Today is the couple’s fourteenth wedding anniversary—more from The Daily Mail’s piece by Rebecca English.  It’s set to be a romantic getaway, with William and Kate renting an isolated self-catering cottage for two during the visit – 14 years after they tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in 2011.  The Lord and Lady of the Isles – as they are known in the region, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay – arrived in Tobermory this afternoon wearing matching tweed jackets as they begin a two-day visit to the Inner Hebrides.  Here is a quick video about the area Kensington Palace posted before their visit. A sizable crowd waited to greet them. Their first stop was at Aros Hall, a community-owned facility which hosts a wide range of events. The hall is “…home to a community fridge saving food from landfill, a charity shop and a children’s indoor play area” per The Express’s coverage of today’s engagements. More from Hello’s story.  The first to benefit from the Community Impact Programme will be Aros Hall in Tobermory. The ‘Rainydays’ play area will be transformed into a soft play zone to encourage more play activities between parents and their children. The Co-op, as part of the Foundation’s Business Taskforce, will provide funding for the play equipment. The play area is a space that local charity, Home-Start Lorn, regularly uses as part of its work to support parents and carers build strong bonds with their children. Hello also notes the royals spoke with “…members of the team to hear how they are using the Shaping Us Framework that the Princess launched earlier this year.” Embed from Getty ImagesWe learn more about the grants from this Sky TV story.  Interior designer Banjo Beale, a presenter on the BBC’s Designing The Hebrides programme and a Mull resident, will work with fellow islanders to ensure the community-owned centres reflect the area’s culture. Beale joined the prince and princess, officially known by their Scottish titles the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, as they toured the building on Tobermory’s waterfront. I believe Mr. Beale is seen behind Prince William in the seafoam shirt.  More from this Daily Mirror piece by Russell Myers.  Shown a small work station, where Tom Nelson was making a new ‘surround’ for the community food bank fridge with wooden tiles on its roof, the Prince and Princess agreed to use a nail gun to add their own. William went first, sniffing the wood as he asked what kind it was and taking instructions on the tool. He fired several nails in successfully before handing it over to his wife, advising her not to pull the trigger then and there “otherwise our trip will be remembered for all the wrong reasons”. Crouching down and adding her tiles matter-of-factly, the Princess was heard to say “I’ve been given a chainsaw” for Christmas. Maggie Buchanan, an Aros hall committee member, wished William a happy anniversary and when she told him “it’s nice you’re spending it on Mull”, he replied: “Yes, nice.” Kate and William reminisced about their visit to the island when they were students, telling volunteers and hall committee members how they visited Tobermory, where the popular BBC children’s TV series Balamory was filmed almost 25 years ago. William told Beale and others: “It was 2003 when we were here. We had a lovely time here – it’s wonderful.” The Prince and Princess spoke with well-wishers gathered near Aros Hall.  The Princess speaking with another young lady outside the hall.
